Born in England, Deborah Sass grew up on a council estate in the not so posh part of Richmond. She was always a performer and would often entertain the kids on the estate & her own family much to their infrequent dismay. During high school Deborah found her voice, her bossy in your face manner, by becoming the school councils secretary. She would get on stage in front of 3500 people every week, talking to them like she was in your lounge room. There in Perth her media affair was born.

She has worked in some of the most prestigious media outlets from the Mirror newspaper, to The Times newspapers to Channel 9,7 & 10 in Australia. Before her TV jaunt she also worked in Radio at both 96fm & 2GB where she met her now co-host Nina Booysen. Nina & Deborah shared a great little flat on Bondi Beach for almost 2 years, concreting their friendship.  She then moved back to the UK and landed a role working with all things Digital & Entertainment with clients such as Amazon, iTunes & Blockbuster.

While at a Music event in Cannes, Deborah fell in love with an older married man, caused a scandal in the music industry and starting spending lot more time in LA. She and the love of her life have a big fuck-off house in the Hollywood hills, go to all the right & not so right parties & constantly travel the world attending the global media events that you read about daily. American Polygamy

Deb and Nina welcome Sanjiv Bhattacharya, a British, Indian Aetheist who spent a year living with, and researching Mormon Polygamy practising family's. His Book "Secrets and wives. The hidden world of Mormon Polygamy" describes his journey and why he has come to the conclusion that it should be decriminalised. Not because he agrees with it, infact he feels that it breeds fanatics who are a danger to others, it is because of those victims of child, sexual and Psychological abuse that society needs to lift the veil of secrecy so that those embroiled in it can seek help with no fear of reprisals. Currently with Mitt Romney is the leading the Republican race for President. Being a Mormon (this doesn't mean he approves of Polygamy) whose Grandfather and Great Grandfathers had multiple wives, and whose religion only recognised the equality of Black Americans in 1978, just how much of a Morman is he?
Hopefully we will have Sanjiv back for more of a chat. In the meantime go www.sanjivb.com to find out more.

Welcome back Doctor Peterson. The show took a turn, we started with our intended subject of "sexting" and how it is becoming an addiction, as well as a curse, for those who are not aware of the legal implications of receiving explicit pictures from under age individuals. We made our way into talking about gender issues as a result of a programme I watched recently on Discovery Health Network about a Transgender couple having a baby. I found it to be interesting as it tested my beliefs and ideas of what is acceptable or not. The discussion is a good way for you as a listener to question how open minded are you really?

Heather Horton is a Astrologer, Life coach and Radio show host. She joins us as Deb and nina catch up with a quick overview of the Grammy's and how Deb enjoyed it. Heather talks a bit about Whitney Houstons death chart, then we move into using examples of oursleves and family to clarify how this all works. Not having a huge education on Astrology the show was a fountain of information which makes alot more sense to me now, something I will definitley look into further. The Energy from the planets affect us whether we want them to or not, so why not have a knowledge of this energy and use it to our advantage in life? To find out more go to www.IndigoLifeDesigns.com

Last minute changes, Doc Pete was detained so we had an open discussion with Christy about pregnancy, possible issues and birthing in America. Congratulations to Glenn and Marji McCracken on the birth of their twin boys finally.... in the early hours of this morning. All natural all the way. Is Medical science being too nosey when it comes to pregnancy, should we stick to old fashioned and perhaps dangerous methods?

If you like the Sex Pistols, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers, Roxy Music and many more- you will love this.
It all about the music on todays show!
Nina & Deborah get to have a chat with one of the music business living legends, Ted Cohen!
Known throughout the technology & music industries as being 'part ambassador and part evangelist' Cohen was instrumental in crafting the licensing agreements upon which the Rhapsody & iTunes Music stores were built.
In an industry slow to embrace change, Cohen is the exception to the stereotypical music-exec rule. Of course when you start a career on the road with Alice Cooper & Van Halen, you're more primed for the unexpected.
Nina gets to ask about all the artists she grew up loving as Cohen worked with so many of them over his 3 decade career.
For anyone who loves music this is a great show to listen to.

Deb is back in the house! or should I say USA. Joining us tonight was Eric Herm, a West Texas farmer who went and discovered the world but came back to his roots, a 6000 acre cotton farm, only to see the destruction of the land due to current farming practices. These include GMO's(genetically modified organisms), Hebacides such as roundup, and genetically modified seed manufacturers who dominate the markets. We chat about the implications of this , the effect it is having on us as human consumers now, and what is it each person can do to help ourselves be healthier and encourage a better way of farming for the future?
Thank you Eric for being on the show and I will endeavour to support GMO labelling on all foods, and to buy healthier choices for my children and myself. Interestingly there are more prisoners in the USA than farmers!

We were lucky to have Dr Frederick Peterson join us to continue our series on Sexual Health. Tonight we focused on Oral sex and the myths and facts associated with it. A little history on the American approach to the "disease" of masterbation and the circumcision. Taking the topic of sex, and oral sex seriously is important, but it is also important to be relaxed enough to have frank and open discussions about it, and maybe learn a thing or two which I did tonight.
Thursday, November 3, 2011
Joining me on tonights show was Dr Frederick L Peterson ,Jnr. PsyD Clinical Psychologist and Sexual Health Practioner. He is a lecturer, therapist, and writer, contributing regularly to magazines,as well as associate editor of Innovations in Clinical Practice: Focus on Sexual Health (2007 Professional Resource Press; Sarasota FL) and is coauthor of the Guide to Healthy Sex: The Fundamentals of Joyful Sex (2008, BK Publications; New Delhi, India). Easing into our Sexual series he explains the need for the awareness of your own sexual health, which extends from medical through psychological and emotional parameters. 'Sexaphrenia' is discussed. It is the level of anxiety a person feels from sex and any pleasure derived from it. This anxiety results from generations of parental teaching that "masterbation will make you go blind" or that woman are not supposed to enjoy sex or voice what they enjoy. We left listeners with an exercise to try at home which may give you an idea of how intouch you are with your body and self.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month for those of you who were wondering why everything had suddenly turned pink! Tonight we talked to Jane Esprit, an extremely brave woman and dedicated mother, fighting breast cancer. Jane talks about her diagnosis and the journey she has taken medically and emotionally. Behind the 230 480 invasive cases (of which 2140 are men) which will be diagnosed this year, is an individual fighting a monster. 39 520 of those individuals will not survive.  It's these stories that we should hear to keep up the efforts for fundraising and research for all cancers.

This week on 'Understanding America', Nina and Deb begin to open the Pandoras box "Sex". Touching on what sexual health is, they disect the World Health organisations definition and add a few stories along the way.Not to shy away from anything, the girls enjoy a good chat about sex, but it is more to introduce the topic for future shows. Once a month an isolated aspect of the genre will be discussed with guests and those "in the know".

Thursday, October 6, 2011

On 'Understanding America' today, Deborah and Nina discuss 'woman who are deciding between career or children'.
A topic which is personal to every woman, raises questions about salary disparity between men and woman, the cost of raising a child today, what does it mean to "have it all" and what does it take to get there. With Deb being a career orientated woman who has made the conscious decision not to have children, and Nina who has found herself in the role of mother and wife in a short space of time, they contemplate regrets and future plans.

Thursday, September 29, 2011

On their premiere show on LA Talk Radio, Deborah and Nina introduce themselves to you and spend an hour touching on many different topics which they will expand on in later shows. Almost like catching up over a cup of coffee, they cover topics from classism, to Catholicism, to healthcare, politics and ask alot of questions which will hopefully be answered in future shows with relevant guests.

Help them try to answer these questions and give your point of view. Can the rest of the world show America how to do things correctly, or is it doing just fine on its own?
