Greg Giesen

Greg Giesen has been involved in management development and training since 1980.  With a masters degree in personnel services and counseling from Miami University, Greg spent nine years counseling, training and implementing programs as the director of student activities on the campuses of Washington University and the University of Redlands. Following his higher education experience, Greg joined the world headquarters' staff of Toastmasters International, where he managed the membership and club development department.

Greg came out to Colorado in 1990 where he joined the management development department at Mountain States Employers Council. During his tenure at MSEC, Greg designed and presented over twenty different training courses to member companies throughout the United States.

In 1998, Greg created Greg Giesen & Associates, Inc., a leadership and management development organization out of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. His company’s specific focus areas include:

In addition, Greg teaches graduate courses at the University of Denver in the areas of public speaking, leadership, organizational conflict, and team development and was recently honored with the distinction of Master Teacher. He has also written three books on Creating Authenticity, including his latest book, Ask Dr. Mac: Take the Journey to Authentic Leadership. Ask Dr. Mac recently won a bronze medal for best business fable from the 2008 Axiom Business Books Awards.

Greg and Steve walked thru each of Kelley’s nine strategies for becoming a star while adding their own insights on the topic. They also addressed a Dear Dr. Mac letter sent to ask@askdrmac.com about a volunteer manager wanting advice on how to tactfully seek out deserved recognition for herself without coming across as a glory-seeker. The show ended on caller Casey’s question on how to best position himself for a promotion.

Judith started off the show talking about the holiday office party and presented a list of Do’s and Don’ts to follow. Some of the tips included: 1) Remember that office parties are still an extension of work. Therefore, maintain appropriate behavior. 2) Limit the amount of “shop talk,” especially if spouses and significant others are present. 3) Branch out and meet colleagues outside of your department (comfort zone). This is the perfect opportunity to reach out. 4) Drink responsibility. You don’t want to feed the rumor mill (last week’s topic) or provide coworkers with water cooler conversation. 5) If the party is after hours and at a restaurant, cover the food and non-alcoholic beverages but let employees purchase their own alcohol.
Greg and Judith were joined later in the show by Dr. Michael Arloski, a wellness psychologist, author, keynote speaker, and CEO of Real Balance Global Wellness Solutions (www.realbalance.com). Dr. Arloski provided insight on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle balance during the holidays. He also addressed how to manage stress in the workplace during these difficult times.
Lastly, the trio responded to a Dear Dr. Mac letter about a male complaining about having to participate in a Secret Santa activity with coworkers who are all women. You got to hear this one!

In their debut show, Dr. Mac and Judith talked about Taylor Clark’s article in Psychology Today, “The 8 ? Laws of Rumor Spread”. In the article review, they discussed how rumors develop, how they spread, and why they spread. Dr. Mac then talked about the damage that rumors can cause in the workplace and what management needs to do in order to curb this from happening. Judith ended the show with a discussion on what a coworker should do if their fellow coworker is not doing their part in meeting deadlines and getting their work done. She gave an example of how to confront such a coworker and what to say.
