The London Garcia show
London Garcia |
|
 |
London Garcia started in the entertainment industry as a full-figured model, a far cry from the world of radio, however she heard about this modeling contest ON the radio. Sounded like a small deal so she figured she'd give it a shot. Well, she showed up.....along with 2,000+ other women. After all the cuts, she was surprised to discover that she made it to the top 15. Considering modeling doesn't require alot of chit chat, it became the kiss of death for London. Hey, the girl's got alot to say! So, she started to pursue other areas of entertainment. While busy writing and performing stand-up comedy, London was picked up for a sketch comedy group called "P.O. Box L.A. Comedy Co.", which had a style similar to "Saturday Night Live" and "In Living Color". She continued performing stand-up in many venues such as The Comedy Store and The Laugh Factory as well as local venues around Southern California. She took advice from the best comics in the business and did what they said: "Perform anywhere and everywhere and get really, really good."
Through P.O. Box L.A. Comedy Co., London met her now longtime amigo, Emilio Rivera, and performed as a stand-up comic and singer in a traveling variety show he later produced, "Latino Nights". Also featured in "Latino Nights" was Mando Cosio, Gilbert Esquivel, Rudy Moreno, and a number of other comics, all who were just breaking out at the time and have long since established themselves as comic legends. Through the years, London was featured in film and TV, recorded vocals for various recording artists, and continued to make alot of friends along the way. And she did what she believed in and what her parents taught her: be yourself, be honest always, be a great friend, be the one to take the initiative, do it right the first time, and FOLLOW THROUGH. And it's always worked.
Around 1998, London stepped back from the industry and pursued corporate ventures, forming a few companies and successfully growing them. Being the CEO is a nice title, but for London, that was about it. In 2004, London realized she was way off track from her true ambitions...the "original dream". She then got involved in a few projects in film and in music, then a light bulb went off. What was the thing that first got her into the business? Ah! Radio. Shortly thereafter, London started "The London Garcia Show" at KTST in Orange County. The show grew quickly from beginning so she moved the show to KCLA in Hollywood, CA. London is happy to make her home now at "LA Talk Radio".
"The London Garcia Show" was born out of a nutty 5-year old girl who spent her tender years interviewing everybody with a pink Goody hairbrush, ordering the neighbor kids around to be her crew, and holding captive anybody with a pulse until 'the show was over'. The radio name, London Garcia, was inspired by London's 2 grandmothers. One was from the U.K. and one was from Mexico.
Past guests include:
- Mando Cosio (stand-up comic, part of the Gabriel Iglesias' comedy crew, film/TV actor)
- Minh Collins (director/producer, "The Hit List", "Dark Art of Interrogation", "Heroes under Fire", "Man of a Thousand Faces")
- Bennett Davlin (director/producer, "Memory", "A Dollar A Day")

Guest: "Run Doris Run", one of the best alternative rock bands in Southern California and a favorite of "The Warped Tour" and "Music Saves Lives"! "Run Doris Run" has been on the rock scene for almost 5 years and the band members are just 18 and 20 years old. Although the lead singer's parents are deaf, they are their biggest supporters. They share about how much they've done in their young years. Just goes to show, you're never too young to start! Co-hosting is "TJR", a self-proclaimed 'Rock Americana' artist. Both his music and his conversation are entertaining. Currently TJR is on the Grammy ballot in three major categories, very unusual for an indie artist. He shares about "the road to Grammy". |

Two amazing guests: First the guest from the west is "Wood the Beginning". "Wood" shares about how his song "Yes We Can" inspired and motivated people all over the country to be active participants in the 2008 Presidential elections. Our guest from the east is "The Whispering Tree" from Manhattan, NY. They started performing and recording in a tiny apartment and dared to dream enough to perform in many parts of the world. Co-hosting is "Fran-Chize", rapper and dangerous 'charmer' and absolute sweetheart. |
