Dr. LaSharnda Beckwith is an Empowerment Advocate, motivational speaker & leadership expert. She knows that in order for anyone to experience success in their personal or professional lives, there must be a fundamental change in attitude. One can not be or think negatively & expect positive results. In addition, she loves to interact where she can encourage, enable, empower and energize others. 

Dr. LaSharnda is also an author and her new book, "When You're Happy With You." will be available this summer and it focuses on helping others find value, build self confidence and self-esteem and confront issues that may be holding them back. Dr. LaSharnda Beckwith established The Beckwith Group in 2005 as a result of her own professional expertise and skills gained in leading the Learning and Development function in government at the Vice President level.  LaSharnda has trained, mentored and ministered to women most of her life and her desire is to see people of all generations empowered to become people who are totally and completely fulfilled in every aspect of their lives, enabling them to make a difference. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share and a desire to help others with their growth.

Dr. A. LaSharnda Beckwith is also a practitioner of Human Performance Improvement, certified by the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD).  She is qualified in Myers-Briggs Indicator Type through The Center for Applications of Psychological Type (CAPT), Certified in Kirkpatrick's Assessments, and she holds two lifetime certifications through the Management Science Institute, a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Studies, Masters of Arts in Business Management and Masters of Business Administration. She holds a PhD in Organizational Management, specializing in Leadership.

This week we lost a good friend, an excellent colleague and a person that loved life. She was Positive and put a smile on your face. How do we live a happy life when we face tragedies, miseries And especially death? From a Christian perspective there are 3 things we believe to be true about the dead:
1. Their Joy- Happy are the dead. Death is nor period, it’s a comma; there is much to follow.
2. Their deeds- Happy are the living who live I the service of the Lord. Their happiness is no less that the dead who die in the service of the Lord.
3. Their Rewards – The rewards of those happy dead who die in the service of the Lord are two-fold: the rest from their labors and their deeds follow them.

That fact is you are only as happy as you allow yourself to be. You could simply want to be happy but the fact is if you are not happy it is because you are not allowing yourself to be. There are many benefits to being happy as opposed to being sad or angry all the time. Materials things are nice to have, but they do not provide any of us with long term happiness. True happiness is grounded in God, family, friends, things that are personal to you that makes you happy---some activity like writing poetry.

Too much Self Doubt is Damaging

Today’s show with Dr. LaSharnda focused on the “whole” self concept. She addressed the issues of Holistic Living and the importance of thinking of oneself holistically, mind, body and soul. In doing so, one does not compartmentalize the total person
because that person is an integrated, intertwined individual that has physical, mental and emotional/spiritual complexities.

Dr. LaSharnda outlined the importance of dealing with the ‘whole” you and outlined techniques one can use to overcome daily stressors. She stressed that understanding the “whole” you is not an easy fix; it takes work and time as well as desire to do you. The person seeking to develop their full self must put in place life long strategies that includes discipline, dedication and a declaration that will last an entire lifetime. Holistic Living is about bringing your life and body back into balance. Holistic living allows you to be balanced in all areas of your life—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Dr. Magruder outlined how anyone seeking to do so can.   First, Dr. Magruder defined the term contentment as accepting one’s uniqueness and cultivating one’s strengths. It is so important to acknowledge who we are and spend some time getting to know that person.  Envy is the art of counting the other fellow’s blessings rather than our own, so in order to live a content life, one should work to overcome envy; that can be done by intentionally complimenting a person that you tend to envy and complimenting that person in person and when they are not around. Next it is important to stop and evaluate what it is that the other person has done that you can learn from.  Envy impacts contentment. To live happy every day, one must learn to be grateful.
