The BBQ Central Radio show is the culmination of many things. The love of barbecue and grilling, the love of radio and all it does for people and the desire to spread knowledge on this subject. Host Greg Rempe founded The BBQ Central Forum in 2004 and it has since grown in to one of the most popular forums of its kind. It was only a matter of time before a new segment of the forum was born...welcome The BBQ Central Show.

The BBQ Central Show started in podcast only form in 2005. Back then it was the only podcast covering this kind of subject matter. In February 2008, Greg found Sam Hasson of LA Talk Radio and the live version of The BBQ Central Show was born. The show continues to be one of the most popular shows on the LA Talk Radio station and does huge downloads on the podcast side.

Whether you are a beginner, a backyard warrior or a competitor hitting the circuits across the country, The BBQ Central Show has something for everyone!! Tune in every Tuesday evening at 9pm EST / 6pm PST for the only show on ANY kind of radio covering the art and sport of barbecue and grilling.

My first guest tonight is President of PK Grills, Paul James.  If you haven't seen the PK Grill yet you are in for a treat.  This is an all aluminum cooking appliance that can do high heat grilling as well as low and slow BBQ throught the use of the bottom and top damper system.  There is a rich history of this product that Paul will tell us about...be sure to tune in for this one.

In the 3rd segment, I will be joined monthly contributor and friend of the show, the Grill Grrrl, Robyn Lindars.  Robyn will go on the offensive as we recap a rather salacious article written about her on the Huffington Post website.  Robyn will also give us her take on the Pit Barrel Cooker, which she has been using quite a bit as of late and share some recipes with us as well.

Hour 2:

My first guest in the 2nd hour is the Director of the Sam's Club BBQ Series, Troy Black.  Troy will give us some background on the Sam's Club Series and we will also break down the LAs Vegas Regional that just wrapped up this past weekend.  I will ask Troy how this region stacks up against the other ones yet to be determined and what his own competition schedule looks like this year.

During the 2nd segment, I will be joined by Randy Owner, founder and owner of ThermoWorks.  As the name indicates, TW deals with thermometry and they have a particular product that is very popular withing the bbq and grilling community.  The "ThermaPen" has been the "go to" implement for lightning fast, and most importantly, super accurate internal meat temperature readings.  I will ask Randy how he got in to this industry, how he grew it in to the business that it is today and what makes the ThermaPen different from any other instant read unit on the market today!  You can visit the company website by going tothermoworks.

During the 3rd segment, I will be joined by The Grill Grrrl herself, Robyn Medlin.  Robyn is a frequent contributor to the show and is the founder of the Grill Grrrl food blog.  On the agenda for tonight, bacon topped cupcakes and Robyn will give her take on what you should buy for your bbq or grill with your new found holiday money!  You can keep up with Robyn by visiting her website grillgrrrl.

During the 2nd segment, I will be joined by Meathead Goldwyn, creator of the Amazing Ribs website.  Meathead has promised to come on in order to shock the bbq and grilling world with his take and the terms barbecue and grilling and what they actually mean.  In an effort to bring some kind of differing perspective, I will, as necessary, argue where I feel he is being deficient in his insight.  I have long held the position that these terms can not be used interchangeably so we will see how comes out on the other side of this argument alive!

During the 3rd segment, Meathead will stay on as we discuss other items of contention...such as if  searing a steak "Seals in the Juices", the Finney Method of cooking steaks (Reverse Sear) and what side of the fence he found himself on regarding season 2 of BBQ Pitmasters.  You can find out more on Meathead by visiting his website, amazingribs

During the 2nd segment I will be joined by Mike Davis, Pitmaster of Lotta Bull BBQ Team.  Mike and his wife Debbie just won the American Royal Open this past weekend.  Lotta Bull has seen a lot of success at this particular event of the years.  Since 2002, Lotta Bull has won the invitational portion once and the open portion 3 times...that is quite a run of success given the amount of great teams that show up every year.  I will ask Mike for his recap of the event and what he is looking to do for the rest of the year.  You can check out Lotta Bull BBq online by visiting their website at lottabullbbq.

During the 3rd segment, I will be joined by Don Will, Pitmaster of Smokers Wil BBQ team.  Smokers Wild won the invitational portion of the American Royal this past weekend.  Don has also had some good success at this event the past two years.  I will ask Don to compare the difference in cooking the open vs. the invitational and what it was like to hear his team called as Grand Champs in what many consier to be the event that pits the best of the best against each other during the course of the competition year.

During the 2nd segment I will be joined by owner of Cow N Sow 2 WOW BBQ restaurant and catering company Steve Forman.  If you recall, all the way back in October of last year, we talked to Mike Fernandez of Moe's BBQ about bbq franchises.  Tonight we look at the other side of the coin...going it alone!  Steve has competed in bbq competitions in the past, and when his career told him to go pound salt, he turned his passion in to his day job!  This should be a very insightful interview.  You can become a fan of Steve at his Facebook page

During the 3rd segment I will be joined by monthly contributor Scott Roberts.  Scott will bring us up to speed on his latest reviews of bbq sauces and rubs.  You can keep up with Scott by visiting his website scottrobertsweb

During the 2nd segment I will be joined the Sales and Marketing Director for a MAK Grills, Bruce Bjorkman.  MAK is a new pellet fired cooker which has recently hit the market to some very good reviews.  MAK claims to have the most sophisticated controller in the industry along with being manufactured right here in the USA unlike some of its competition.  The MAK also has an area which allows for direct searing...so not only does this cooker smoke/bbq but it also allows you to grill as well...something the competition cannot claim.  Bruce was the Sales and Marketing Director for Traeger Corporate for a number of years so he has a unique perspective as to how the other pellet cookers in the industry stack up to the MAK.  You can visit makgrills for product information.

During the 3rd segment I will be joined by first time guest, Scott Roberts.  Scott is a recognized expert in the world of the “pepper heads” doing reviews on hot sauce and other fiery foods on his blog as well as for Hot Sauce Weekly.  Scott will be coming on The BBQ Central Show to review bbq sauce, bbq rubs and the occasional hot sauce as well.  I look forward to launching our new segment tonight on the show.  You can check Scott out on the web at scottrobertsweb

Joe admitted that while he is not the one who found this product, as it has been around for hundreds of years, he did make it his mission to source the BEST bee pollen available. This gives Joe the best product to offer his clients...taking bee pollen will give you more energy, make you feel better and help your entire system run more efficiently! Joe is currently running a special buy 6 months and get your 7th month free and that includes free shipping as well.

Segment 3:Derrick Richesfrom bbq.about made his monthly appearance. Since we both have a test unit of “The Bubba Keg” we compared notes about the pros and cons of the unit. This small unit can hit 800* and get as low as 200* which has never been the case regarding these infrared grills.

I was joined by Jack Waiboer of Common Interest BBQ Team and Russ Cornette of Smokin’ Coles BBQ Team.  These two pit masters teach a competition cooking class with a few other guys in the Carolinas aptly named “The Carolina Pit Masters” class.  What is unique about this class versus some others is twofold.  First, after they are done cooking, they have qualified SCBA judges to taste the food and have Q&A with.  Secondly, this team of teachers do these classes to benefit local charities…in this case, they will be donating to the Shriners in Summerville, SC with their class on March 6th & 7th.

Russ Cornette also makes his own bbq sauce and bbq rub…I suggest going to his site and picking some up.  Visit smokincoles to find out more and to order!

Phil White, professional game shoe winner won the sauce and rub tonight, which happened to be supplied by Smokin’ Coles.  Russ has asked to donate some more sauce and rub in the future to other lucky winners!
