Lisa Klein is a co-founder of MadPix, Inc. a film production company
committed to making engaging documentaries about social justice issues.
Her most recent project, THE S WORD , is a documentary that tackles one
of the most cloistered issues of our time through the emotional stories of
suicide attempt and loss survivors. Lisa’s decision to make THE S WORD
stems from her own experience. As a survivor of both her father’s and
brother's suicides, she struggled with the "whys" for years. She was driven
to document it and open a much needed conversation because she
believes no family should have to experience the pain her family endured.
In 2012, Lisa co-directed OF TWO MINDS , a journey into the lives of
remarkable people living, struggling and triumphing with bipolar disorder.
Both THE S WORD and OF TWO MINDS won the prestigious SAMHSA
Voice Award, the most significant award for mental health filmmaking. In
addition to filmmaking, she is an author, and speaks at universities and
organizations around the world, raising awareness about mental health
issues.
She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds an MFA from the
University of Southern California.
