An in-depth conversation with Sterling Scott, Associate Director of Boys Republic, exploring the innovative approaches to juvenile rehabilitation, vocational training, mental health integration, and success stories from the program.

Boys Republic, founded in 1907 in Chino Hills, California, is a private school and residential program that focuses on helping adolescents build responsibility, character, and practical life skills through education, vocational training, and community life.

The institution has historically served youth who are:
• court-referred
• struggling academically or behaviorally
• experiencing family instability

The model blends schooling, work programs, and a structured social community designed to teach accountability and citizenship.

An interesting cultural footnote: actor Steve McQueen spent time there as a youth and later publicly credited the institution with changing his life.

As Associate Director, Scott helps oversee programs designed to develop resilience, responsibility, and social competence, with the goal of helping young people return to society as capable adults.
