Osiris Munir

Born in Amarillo, Texas and growing up in Waco, Osiris Munir, graduated from G.W. Carver High School at age 16. Her parents waited for her to turn seventeen before allowing her to join the US Navy. During Munir’s three years of service she gained the trust of fellow comrades from the surrounding areas of Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, D.C., Baltimore and Norfolk, Virginia who found her a kindred spirit. They even coined Munir the nickname of KK for “Kool Kid”. Upon her release from military life and after receiving an honorable discharge she found out that her parents and family had moved to Northern California and were living in the City of Santa Rosa. Meanwhile, her children’s godmother was dating a professional clown. She mentioned that he was a Buddhist and chanted the same thing as Tina Turner. While sitting in her living room one day, she happened to gaze up and saw two groups on the screen, both were dressed very colorfully, and one sounded British. She soon discovered that the bands were consecutively, Earth Wind and Fire and the Beatles. The movie was called Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely-Hearts Club. Because Munir was into metaphysics and now chanting she decided to focus on meeting EWF founder, Maurice White. She mailed a letter to the Complex Studios in West Los Angeles which at the time were being managed and co-owned by Maurice and Robert Cavallo. The letter reached Maurice’s sister who told her that when she arrived in LA she should contact the studio. After meeting White the two forged a friendship that would span over 20 years until White’s passing. Quickly positioning herself as a mainstay in the industry, Munir developed her skills as a model training at (JRP John Robert Powers). After JRP Munir worked with Celes King, III, (1923-2013) a central figure and mainstay in the black community. Celes introduced her to a small but powerful circle in Hollywood who were trusted connections in the areas of music, television and film. Working in the field of music piqued her interest. Within that circle she met PR media professional Pat Tobin who trained her in how to speak and dress. During this time Munir began getting her hair styled as the first black house model for the famous product and hair salon, Vidal Sassoon. Tobin led her to further train under Rogers and Cowans, PR expert, Lilly Lipton. Lipton would teach Munir how to pitch and how to get notable talent onto radio and television. Munir began to completely focus on her love of dance and music. She loved how the industry came alive late at night. Her love of martial arts led her into the circle of notable black martial artists, Jim Kelly. Munir had already learned the basics of Tai Chi Chuan while living in Northern California and understood the discipline needed. When the Hollywood Reporter ran an ad looking for a front office receptionist/assistant and although down with the flu she grabbed the magazine and called the number listed. Headed by President, Robert Williams and VP Jeffrey Patterson, Spotlite Enterprises had been built from scratch and had notably become the first comedy agency in the country. A month after getting hired by the agency she was promoted to assistant to the VP of the company. The impressive roster included young and rising star, Jamie Foxx, who was then managed by Marcus King. One day one of the agents there mentioned that a music agent at William Morris, now WME, needed an assistant. Munir jumped at the chance. After exiting the Morris agency and Universal/MCA, she became an independent contractor securing her own clients and developing her talents as an entertainment personality. She has done so since. With hardly any money she sadly asked her parents to see after her children. They would stay there for a year. Upon returning to Los Angeles and without a job she started fit modeling for the Otis Parsons School of Design and Merchandising and worked with designers, Marika Knakk, Malibu Sports and award-winning television and costume designer, Marlene Stewart. In 2002, once again she took a huge risk by taking on a double media assignment as a talent /media rep for the Universoul Circus along with Shuckey Duckey, Quack Quack. There she came to understand how radio and television worked together as applied to the performing-arts. In addition to her impressive background Munir is a published author and world-renowned metaphysician. She has written notable articles for Sepia Magazine, Dallas Texas, a column called, As Above So Below, an astrologically themed show. Black Film Magazine was formerly out of London and the Culver City Newspaper. Presently, Munir is author of her autobiography entitled, Nita” writer, social media influencer, YouTube personality and weekly show host of The Osiris Munir Show on LA Talk Radio. An intuitive abstract expressionist painter. She is an active member of the Inspiration International Art Group curated by artist Bibiana Huang Matheis and the Pasadena Society of the Arts.
