Episode #205
Two Authors. Two Spotlights on Arizona History.
Conversation between writers is always engaging and entertaining, especially when they are both historians with an interest in Arizona. We chat with award-winning author and historian JANELLE MOLONY about her new book, BIRDS GONE WILD (AND OTHER STORIES OF ARIZONA OSTRICH RANCHING) a humorous pop history of “feather farms” in Arizona from boom to bust. Janelle entertains us with fascinating stories of the amazing past, present, and future of ostriches in Arizona.
Historian DAVID GRASSE takes a close look at another Arizona business in his important new book, RED LIGHT DISTRICTS OF TUCSON: A HISTORY, 1870-1918. This book is the first comprehensive history of Tucson’s red light districts and the women who worked in them. Using a variety of primary sources, Grassé examines the relationship between moral and political movements and the women of the red light districts themselves.
