Singer songwriter, Jon Gus grew up in Connecticut, but always dreamed of pursuing his musical aspirations outside his home state to venture all over the country. Jon studied music at the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, then soon made his way to Hofstra in Hempstead, NY. After graduating, he interned at A&M Records for their A&R department, but felt like the music industry was starting to crumble once Napster hit. He even interviewed for Tommy Mattola and sadly, didn’t get the job, but that didn’t stop Jon from playing guitar with a hit cover band to crowded rooms of 500+ all over Connecticut and Rhode Island. This ignited his passion for music again which made him take on the adventure of moving out west to Los Angeles to seek out bigger musical opportunities – and to see about a girl. In 2002, he started a band called Gus Company after being introduced to drummer T Taddeo by a mutual songwriter friend, Nikhil Korula. Gus Company performed all over Hollywood at heralded venues such as The House Of Blues, The Whisky A Go Go, The Roxy, and Viper Room while recording their first EP. After recording their 2nd EP, the band disbanded, but even that didn’t stop Jon Gus from staying away from music.
In 2011, Jon met Selena Gomez’s backup singer, Lindsey Harper, and soon the duo were writing music together, recording and performing all over the west coast. Jon also performed on some fly dates with Michael Stagliano from The Bachelorette, while also playing some college shows with the illustrious NK Band all over the country.
In 2014, Jon met another songwriter friend, Nick Gomez, which led the two to write songs for small films, commercials, an internet series and more. In 2015, Jon joined the country band Tenn West, where he met his longtime songwriting partner Sarah Cardenas. While on tour, Tenn West opened for Christian Bush, Neon Trees and Deana Carter. Jon and Sarah eventually started a new Americana group called Dear Emmy, releasing their first EP in 2021.
Most recently in 2023, Jon co-wrote a country song featured in the movie, My Dead Friend Zoe, starring Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman which just won awards at SXSW. As luck would have it, friend and collaborator, Ryan Curtin hit Jon up about writing music for a new movie called LA Grit which stars Max Martini, Tyrese, Caylee Cowan, Benito Martinez, Linda Purl and Patrick Duffy. During this process, Jon wrote 12+ jazz standards in 3 weeks with 2 co-writers, Nick Gomez and Sarah Cardenas, then demo’d and recorded multiple actors singing the songs and even got to play an extra in the movie as a band member.
Throughout all of this time, Jon has become a top notch multi instrumentalist playing guitar, bass, piano, harmonica, mandolin, banjo and ukulele so look for new music and songs to come down the way as his star keeps on rising.
