Wake Up Hollywood – May 12, 2026

Gladden Rangel is a multi-ethnic Afro-Latin artist and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. His work draws from a personal history shaped by a fractured home and community, exploring the surreal embedded within the hyper-real.

His films often travel to the edges of human experience, engaging with social issues in search of universal truths that transcend politics and media narratives. A former music producer, Rangel brings a lyrical, visceral quality to his visual work: writing, directing, and producing his own pieces across both scripted and documentary forms. He sees his work as a kind of captcha code: proof of humanity in an increasingly artificial world. His latest work is a documentary short called KOBZARKA, a story about a Ukranian singer songwriter who plays music for soliders on the front lines of the Ukranian war with Russia.
